Critique for Project: Educate, Fractal Week - October 2011
This piece presents itself in a rather singular layout right from the start: the diptych division is realized through a horizontal line, giving the fractal a double-window feel which, given the patterns, also reminisces of stained glass.
The spirals gently unfold in faint pastel colours, stretching like hairy protuberances on the fragmented surface; they recreate two opposite tides: the one in the upper half, going from right to left and sparkling with vivid sunny colours, and the one in the lower half, proceeding from left to right and soothing the energetic effect given upwards with its prominently green palette.
Apart from the white zones in the upper half being somewhat too bright, and perhaps the lower half needing a brighter green spark (or possibly adding more blue to enhance contrast), little to nothing can be reproached to this fractal. The technical execution shows fine artistry which is way beyond words. In spite of its prominently abstract outlook, this work can indeed suggest definite, real-world shapes no less than any other, and that's the mastery in Misha's work - the ability to create a universal, all-embracing and yet unique and personal fractal style, that never fails to shine in his fractals.
